GOD ALONE INITIATES SALVATION
“The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because
ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: But because the LORD loved you, and because he would
keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the
house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which
keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations” (Deuteronomy 7:7-9).
I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet
unto the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5).
“And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me; That ye may eat and
drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel” (Luke 22:29-30).
“Jesus answered, Verily,
verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born
of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The
wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is
every one that is born of the Spirit” (John 3:5-8).
“And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath
given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day” (John 6:39).
“No man can come to me, except the
Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all
taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me” (John 6:44-45).
I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have
heard of my Father I have made known unto you. Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and
bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you” (John
“Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth” (Romans 8:33).
“But when it
pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace, To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him
among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood” (Galatians 1:15-16).
“According as he hath chosen us in
him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto
the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will” (Ephesians 1:4-5).
my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with
fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:12-13).
on therefore, as the elect [chosen, selected, favorite] of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind,
meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ
forgave you, so also do ye (Colossians 3:12-13).
“Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God. For our gospel came not unto
you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you
for your sake” (1 Thessalonians 1:4-5).
“But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord,
because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: Whereuntohe called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Thessalonians 2:13-14).
“Who hath saved
us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us
in Christ Jesus before the world began” (2 Timothy 1:9).
“Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to
the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness” (Titus 1:1).
“Peter, an apostle of Jesus
Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, Elect according to the foreknowledge
of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you,
and peace, be multiplied. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten [procreated,
regenerateed] us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:1-3).
“Forasmuch as ye
know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from
your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before
the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you” (1 Peter 1:18-20).
THE POWERS THAT BE ARE ORDAINED OF GOD
"Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For
there is no power but of God: the
powers that be are ordained
of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth
the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall
receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to
good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of
the power? do
that which is good, and thou shalt have
praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee
for good. But if thou do that which
is evil, be
afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he
is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon
him that doeth
evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject,
not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. For for
this cause pay ye tribute also:
for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render
therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tributeis due;
custom to whom custom; fear to whom
fear; honour to whom honour."
